The Perfect Bathroom Blind

 The Perfect Bathroom Blind

Here at My Beautiful Bathroom, we do the big things well. Helping you choose the bathroom products, as well as designing your new bathroom which is what we excel at. But we also know that it’s the little bits off detail that can really turn your new bathroom into something with the wow factor. So, here’s our guide to getting your window dressing right with new blinds.

Bathroom blinds can really help to finish off a new bathroom. Choosing bathroom blinds can be exciting and, while we are going to focus on some of the various styles of blind available, it’s also important that you select the blind made from the most ideal fabric, as the humidity in the bathroom can damage normal untreated materials in months.

Here are a few ideas on styles, and our thoughts on whether they are bathroom-friendly or not:

 Roman Blinds

Roman blinds are a beautiful addition to any window and create an almost waterfall effect – a great look for the bathroom. The blinds fold back to just half a foot so that when they are open, you can let lots of light in. This type of blind offers a fantastic way to add punchy colours, shapes, stripes or floral to enhance the colours in the room, yet are not perhaps the best choice for your bathroom due to the humidity created when you use the space. We suggest that if you are keen on Roman blinds, that you select a fabric that is waterproof and has been treated so that the damp atmosphere doesn’t damage it.

 Venetian Blinds

Venetian blinds are perfect for the bathroom and help add privacy without having to be closed when you use your space. Like the one in the picture, they are usually made from pre-treated wooden slats, although you can buy Venetian blinds in other materials nowadays, too.

Whether you want stainless steel, wood or plastic there are many choices and colours available. Wood will enhance your room if you are looking for a natural finish and a warming tone, while other styles such as steel, or painted steel (available in all manner of colours), can help finish off a sleek modern look.

 Pleated Blinds (London Blinds)

As with Roman blinds, pleated blinds aren’t perhaps the best choice in the bathroom as they are made with fabric. Because the material is subjected to condensation, mildew and damp stains will collect in the fabric and cleaning on its own will not remove it.

 Roller Blinds

We think that roller blinds are a great addition to any bathroom window and can usually be cleaned very easily. Provided they have been made specifically for the bathroom or pre-treated, they will repel water and don’t collect mildew like heavy fabric blinds.

In summary, the best type of bathroom blind to choose is one that you can wipe clean, is waterproof, yet also compliments your colour and style scheme beautifully. Call My Beautiful Bathroom for a chat. We’re always happy to offer our advice on all things bathroom on 0141 771 3640.
