Let My Beautiful Bathroom Add Technology To Your Toilet

Let My Beautiful Bathroom Add Technology To Your Toilet

In most homes, it’s considered the only place we can get away from technology. But the role of the bathroom is changing.

According to designers the digital world has entered the smallest room in the house and, as prices of new technology fall, our toilets could start to look very different in years to come. At My Beautiful Bathroom we’ll give you a sneak preview of the bathrooms of the future. You have been warned

Taps – just as Scot rail and certain airports have touch sensitive taps, we could be seeing them in the home too. Rather than having to twist on a tap we’d just wave our hands underneath the infrared sensor (this is designed to both save water and prevent disease spreading). You can already buy versions where the temperature can be preset.

They work with battery power with one battery lasting around a year say the manufacturers.

Shower – versions of a digital shower are currently available. This can be turned on anywhere in the home by remote control. It will alert you when the water has reached your desired temperature. The i-Splash wireless splash proof speaker system hangs on your shower head and can be attached to the TV and video, as well as your iPod.

Massage tub – this self-contained glass box can be hooked to your water supply and placed in a corner of your bathroom. It operates as a sauna, shower, whirlpool tub and offers chromotherapy (relaxation and healing using various coloured lights).

Again, these are worked by remote control and the fancier versions have a TV, radio, CD player and hands-free phone installed in them (no relaxation there then!).

Toilet – yes, you knew we were coming to this. We’ve already seen these around and now apparently half the homes in Japan have a heated toilet seat which also wash (using a spray) and dry your nether regions (hence no need for toilet paper).

This bidet-type device, if you´re interested is known as the Washlet. You can also buy toilets with a deoderiser system and an inbuilt MP3 player. Some are remote control, others are operated by buttons at the side of the toilet.

Bathroom scales – smart versions will be able to tell you not just your weight but how much body fat you´re carrying around and whether or not you´re dehydrated. IT experts in Silicon Valley are currently working on a bathroom health monitor which will track certain conditions such as asthma or diabetes.

Electric Mirror – we’ve already seen a version of a bathroom mirror which doubles as a TV. This two-way mirror shows a small screen so you can watch the morning news on the LCD screen while shaving (we wouldn’t actually recommend this!). It´s water and steam proof and humidity doesn’t affect it either.

The most bizarre bathroom gadget we´ve heard of – and which hasn’t yet been invented as far as we´re aware – is flooring which mimics particular materials, it can be altered to feel like you´re walking on sand or stone. It´s currently in development, believe it or not.

Here at My Beautiful Bathroom Installations we quite fancy the Massage Tub and Bathroom Scales.
