Don’t Delay With Your Shower Tray! – A Handy Guide
Putting a new shower block together seems pretty straightforward, but there are a world of possibilities to consider; everything from shower curtains and shower heads, right down to the tray at the base. You may even find that the shower tray determines the rest of your shower for you, so finding the best fit and form for your bathroom is not something to be taken lightly.
Shower trays come in a pretty wide variety of shapes, not least because they’ll help you get it into the space you need it.
There are plenty with right angles, ideal if you’re placing your shower in the corner of the bathroom. You’ve got rectangular ones for an almost monumental feel to your walk-in shower, as well as standard square trays if you just want something classic. If you’ve got an alcove you think would be perfect for your new shower, get your tape measure at the ready.
It’ll have to be the perfect fit to be suitable, but we’ll get to that in a moment. Perhaps the most enjoyable part is deciding what material or finish you’re after. There are countless variations on standard white, acrylic shower trays out there, and while they’re reasonably cheap, sometimes you just want to let your imagination run wild.
Why not get a mosaic tiled effect on your new stone shower tray? Or leave the stone bare and let the natural colours come through. You could even find yourself a marble plinth for your shower which looks stunning and is completely unique to you. Every pattern, notch and imperfection in the stone would be totally original.
So What Else Is There To Know?
Of course this gives you ample opportunity to experiment with colour too. Forget boring old white, let your dark side out and indulge in a devilishly black finish.
You could accent the same colour around the room with other accessories, too. For keeping shower trays clean, there’s really nothing to it. Don’t waste lots of money on expensive cleaning sprays, just do your best to keep on top of it. A quick rinse with the shower head after you use it will really make a difference.
Of course, if you’ve gone for a tiled finish, you might need to break out an old toothbrush to help you with the spaces in between, but it’s a small price to pay for a pristine looking shower. As mentioned before, fitting your shower tray can be tricky, but with a bit of expert help it’s so much easier.
First thing on the list is to make sure you’ve got as snug a fit as possible. When the sealant goes around the outside, the last thing you want is a gap between the wall and the tray. Tape measures are your best friend in this situation, so keep one on you while you’re searching around for a new tray.
If you get a good fit the rest comes naturally – with a little help from an experience bathroom fitter of course! And that’s really all there is to it. Once it’s in place you can accessorise your shower tray with wooden boards to stand on as you get out, throw a heated towel rail next to it so you’ll have something warm and fluffy on hand, or even just a sleek glass shower door. It’s all there to help you make your new bathroom space your own.
